TN: 1993 Domaine Pierre Gelin Mazis-Chambertin

  • 1993 Domaine Pierre Gelin Mazis-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru (7/17/2013)
Visual: Very dark burgundy color, non-transparent. Unlike the last bottle, this was not cloudy at all. Great looking wine!

Nose: A bit muted at first, signs of leather, dark earth and black fruits.

Palate: Tar, black fruited, blackberry flavors, hoisin and dark earth with strong tannins.

A nice wine that transformed into something somewhat short of magical. It got much better with time. Need to open the next one earlier. A/A-

I love Gelin’s Fixins, the older the better, and I’ve had a couple of glorious Clos De Beze, but I had no idea there was a Mazis.

Tom,

If you get to NY, I will open another. I have 3 more left (I think) [cheers.gif]

It usually needs more time than the Beze. I have a feeling it’s a lower production wine, as you just never ever see it any where. The Beze has become a lot harder to find. This estate is on fire lately.

The Beze pops up on lastbottlewines from time to time. Always a good deal.
