TN: 1993 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio

Took a flyer on this for a special ribeye dinner with friends. The bottle was purchased as part of a case upon release and cellared by a previous customer of the store. Either they were clearing cellar space or their taste changed, but the store purchased them back.

No fill issues and relatively low sediment. Cork disintegrated a bit upon pulling but was otherwise intact. Decanted for only 30 minutes. Light garnet color with amber on the edges. Dried thyme & oregano and black pepper on the nose. Light to medium body with hints of earth and raspberries. A bit over the hump and not as bright as younger Chiantis, but still very elegant.
