Drinking great wine like this 93 is so frustrating for a newbie (2004) to the wine game. Probably cost, what - $30-40 if that, on release?
Now it’s definitely north of $60 for older vintages, if not close to triple digits. Sigh.
In a great place right now, enticing tar/earth/tobacco nose, with red fruit like you’d find in a Chambolle, tannin still giving the wine a stick-to-it-ness in your mouth. Complex and interesting, wish I had a lot more of these.
I really think older Spottswoode, Beringer PR and Mondo Reserve are to die for.
Fwiw - this was another WineBid bottle and I’ve yet to have a poorly stored clunker.
(Actually, I did have a 75 Mondo Napa (not reserve) from there that was DOA - but I suspect it wouldnt have fared better given great provenance (which it may indeed have had).)
This was my favorite wine for a while. I think it was more than $30-$40, but your point is totally valid. Although at the time I was fairly new into wine and this was a splurge wine for me
Too bad your not coming tonight to the beef experience, I’m bring a 92’ Beringer PR.
I agree with both Beringer and the Spottswoode. They are a relative steal at auction, especially the Beringer. I guess the label isn’t sexy enough for most buyers. Whenever I can ever find 91’-95’ for $75 or less I usually buy it.
There’s only one Malinoski who can handle 4 nights in a row of steady offline-drinking!
I am going to stop by Lower Falls tonight for a Heredia tasting, then tomorrow is burg dinner, Sat is Champagne/WA Reds, Sunday -well my friend, Sunday is Victory Day!
Are you sure?? Zach, the pussy, just dropped out because he’s got a stuffy nose. I’m sure we could make room.
I do understand the consecutive night issue however. I really wish I could make the burg dinner, THAT sounds like a blast. Chris is really going out of his way to accomodate the party.
I didn’t know you were a Cardinals fan??
