TN: 1991 Kathryn Kennedy Cabernet Sauvignon

  • 1991 Kathryn Kennedy Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (1/30/2010)
Deep red in color. No bricking whatsoever. Aromas were plush and deep the moment the bottle was opened. Dark berry, spice and plum with a secondary of eucalyptus. Beautiful, full and silky mouth feel with the plum, spice and dark berry. Very alive throughout. Long, balanced finish. The finest bottle showing I’ve had yet with this wine, and now my last. It was a truly a pleasure to drink the past couple of years. (95 pts.)

Every Kathryn Kennedy cab I’ve had (all older vintages, obviously) still seems to have many more years of life left in it.

Nice note, btw. Sounds fantastic.

I have been mostly drinking the “Lateral” as that is what I find around here. Good juice for under $40. The estate cab is a bit too pricey so have not tried it.

Bob, you are finding older vintages?

No Todd I am not. In fact I can’t find newer vintages, but at over $100, I am not looking that hard for the Estate. The Lateral shows up quite often. Have the 05 in the cellar now.

I actually prefer their Small Lot Cabs most of the time. Just a stylistic/expression preference. (Intense black currant and cedar vs. smooth and elegant) Anyway, it’s a larger production, so costs a lot less.

I’ve only had the 2002 Small Lots (picked up a couple of bottles a couple of years ago to try). Opened one last Summer. WOW! Excellent showing and a quality wine. Impressed to say the least.
Went on wine-searcher to source more and the price went thru the roof! [shock.gif]

K+L has the '05 marked down to $36. Just had the '06, which should be showing up in retail soon, and it’s excellent.
