TN: 1991 Domaine Guy Roulot Meursault Les Luchets

  • 1991 Domaine Guy Roulot Meursault Les Luchets - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault (12/30/2011)
Has moved into tertiary development stage with some honeycomb, white mushroom and toast on the nose. Full and rich in the mouth with hazelnut cream and rockmelon flavours. It is mature but is still quite precise and fresh, with breezy lemon like acidity still crackling energetically through the wine.

Thanks Jeremy, sounds lovely. I have a 2000 of this I was thinking of popping soon, but sounds like it could go even more and reward patience handsomely.

I don’t think I’ve ever tasted a 91 white Burg–being sandwiched by 89, 90 and 92, 93, I completely missed that vintage, so thanks for the note!

Only 91 I’ve had is the B. Martray CC which is killer. (3 times with consistent notes)

Thank you for the note on the Roulot. It is good to know that some of his “smaller” wines can go the distance. Sounds lovely.

Roulot’s “smaller” village wines can certainly go the distance. Recently had a '95 Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plasir while in Burgundy. Smoke, minerals, peaches on the nose. Very rich and balanced…Long finish and drinking perfectly at this time.

Though I tasted a bunch (from Pierre Morey, Niellon, Sauzet, Carillon and Pierre Bitouzet) during a visit in 1992, looking at my cellar inventory, I realize that I’ve never owned a bottle. Not sure why. I liked them fine, though I found them pretty forward and not really ageworthy as a gross generalization. I’m not sure I’ve tasted any in the last 15 years or so…Interesting to see this doing well, though, a Roulot is always a good bet to be good at 20, especially in the pre-premox era.

FYI my most recent '91:1991 Louis Jadot Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles - 9/5/2010 rated 91 points: Hint of caramel, botrytis, orange rind on the nose. Good texture. Still lively acid on a nice finish. Very enjoyable, but on the decline. (544 views)
