- 1991 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve - USA, California, Napa Valley (6/5/2026)
From my late father’s cellar, this was opened with friends, and made everyone very happy. It needed maybe 30 minutes to shed a little bottle funk, but after that it was showing fruit, along with a full array of developed, savory aromas and flavors. The mouthfeel was suave, with the tannins nearly resolved, leaving just enough to create a frame holding all the beautiful Cabernet tones together. Along with the otherworldly 1991 Monte Bello, and outstanding 1991 Montelena, this wine joins the podium of my favorite California Cabernets.

I just had a bottle two nights ago.
It was not as good as some bottles I’ve had before, which were incredible. Perhaps storage was an issue.
Still have a few bottles and a mag.
I can imagine at this age that any mistreatment (or an even slightly substandard cork) could be very detrimental.
Wow this brings back some memories! My dad and I loved this wine, along with a few other 1991s, dare I say even Caymus! Would be cool to drink this one again with pops. His first winery tour was at Berlinger inthe1960s!

Picked up 2 of these at auction for my brother’s birthday year. First one was excellent, looking forward to the 2nd in a couple years!
