1990 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut - France, Champagne (8/6/2022)
First glass: Lightly bubbled, lighter golden brown color. Dried apricot and lightly toasted almond, either candied almond or almond with a bit of honey.
Second glass (approx. 30 minutes later, bottle corked in fridge): bubbles gone, darker golden brown, more sherry notes/dry apple cider.
Hell of an experience, going to be hard to match. The host noted the bottle had not been kept in good storage conditions for the entirety of it’s life (hot apartment, traveling the country).
May have life left, but no reason to let it go any longer unless you like ultra-tertiary Champagne.
GH shared with JH, JB, and me. (96 pts.)
