TN: 1990 Louis Jadot Bâtard-Montrachet

Haven’t had a Burg in a long while. Figured today was as good a day as any…

  • 1990 Louis Jadot Bâtard-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (3/5/2016)
It’s a treat to pop a bottle of white Burgundy that comes from before the age of the pox and to have it show so spectacularly well. The nose is tropical and rich, with a touch of lemongrass, coconut, and pineapple (Thai-style pina colada, anyone?). The palate shows amazing richness thanks to lots of ripe fruit elements, but there’s enough acidity here to hold it. Perhaps a touch of sweetness from the ripe fruit on the finish. The heat does poke through a little, but all in all, this is an amazing bottle of chardonnay. (93 pts.)

Thanks for the note! I love reading about how white Burgundy wines age.

Man, that sounds great.
Thanks for sharing a note!

Great notes and mirrors my experience.

We bought a batch of the 90 Batard and Chevalier Montrachet a couple of years ago. Every bit as lovely and alive as you mention but that heat that comes through at the end convinced me not to reload.

I actually bought this on Charlie’s recommendation. I’m guessing you were part of that cohort too?

I was the one that gave Charlie the heads up on the original batch
