TN: 1990 Kenwood Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series (USA, Cali

  • 1990 Kenwood Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series - USA, California, Sonoma County (6/27/2010)
Big wine with plenty of juice left. Surprisingly dark for a 20 year old bottle. Eucalyptus, tobacco, maybe a touch of chocolate both in bouquet and on the palate, some spice in the finish. Nice mouthfeel, balanced with heavy mid-palate and fairly long finish; tannins present but light.
Tasted this after the 1986 (which was also impressive, drink now), but the 1990 was clearly better, and based on this tasting should hold for another 10 years. (94 pts.)

You’d be shocked at how good the '89 was a few years ago. Worth a shot if you can find some on the cheap via Winebid or elsewhere.

These were made by a guy named Bob Kozlowski who also had a day job with a big SF oil company. Over many years, he took my parents and joint friends on wine excursions all over California.

Bob made the best wines that Kenwood has ever seen IMO.
