Shared with my wife yesterday starting around 2pm or so - finished with dinner later. I have one left after starting with three about 10 years ago! This one was better than the last with no end in sight…
When placed in the decanter the color was a shimming ruby color with flecks of purple - darkened up as it sat. The nose on this was super interesting with notes of sour cherry, bright black raspberry, smoke, tobacco, mint, and cured meats. I have no idea why the first thing I though of was duck pate but this had that sense of savory olive/meat thing going on. The palate was even better on this one with a full follow through from the nose and plentiful savory tannins that completed this wine. I only have one left of this and will save it for a special occasion - and - for friends that wouldn’t mind drinking some really nice CDP :p! I love this time of year.
LOL Buzz - it was football Sunday so there was a need for something to “sip” . I think we started around 12noon for Charlie’s weekend which meant I started to fade around 9pm .
Wow just wow - I love Bonneau and especially the Celestins when it gets some age so I can understand your excitement about this legend - I would love to try it once and thanks for posting:-)
If you could go back in time and buy the 89 and 90 CdP’s on release, you would have found a lot more CdP’s like this one. I’m afraid that the uber-ultra-luxury cuvee craze for many CdP’s has
created a dramatic stylistic change for many CdP’s. But if you can find well-stored 88’s/89’s/90’s from Vieux Telegraphe, Bonneau, Beaucastel, etc. you’ll find more wines such as this bottle.
I can do that. I was going to post about the Rieslings you, Todd, & I drank at Starry Kitchen, but then I realized that they weren’t expensive enough to post about and I was intimidated.
