TN: 1990 Domaine Ramonet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet

  • 1990 Domaine Ramonet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (10/4/2014)
This is at that fascinating point in a wine’s evolution where it is transitioning from a secondary to tertiary profile. The yellow fruits are still very much in charge, but on the finish, a hint of truffle and hazelnut is beginning to show through. The wine is classically Ramonet - seemingly light on its feet, but showing remarkable intensity and freshness especially for a 24 year old white. After 24 hours, while still very citrussy, some spice - cinnamon and nutmeg - is showing through.

I guess that wines such as this are the reason we grudgingly tolerate the scourge of premox (not that I’ve ever had an out of condition Ramonet from before 1995).

nice note on a nice wine.

Great note. Pre 95 ramonet is indeed magical. Post… Is magical when not premoxed or advanced… Which is unfortunately often Premoxed and advanced.
