TN: 1989 Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses

I have virtually always bought new vintages of the Olga Picasses on trust. They are pretty hard, tannic wines on release. And I am no longer young enough to buy them new. My trust has been regularly rewarded though.

This, except the young-enough part. Started with the 1996 vintage when I put my faith in Robert Callahan. Still waiting on my bottles…

Hmm. I bought the 96s on Robert’s recommendation as well, and also my first year. Mine have been drinking well since a couple of years ago, at least for my taste. I went through half a case learning my lesson, though.

I agree, many vintages of this wine really could use 20+. I certainly feel that about 2010. I’m sitting on a bunch of 09 and 07 as well, all three vintages which I grabbed by the case at the silly price of $20 each on sale. The 07 has been enjoyable now but will improve with more time.

Yes, as I’ve said before, the 07 is oddly more open and can be drunk with pleasure now. It’s the only vintage that young that I would say that of.

Love me some '07
