TN: 1989 Misserey Chambolle-Musigny (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny)

  • 1989 Misserey Chambolle-Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (11/28/2014)
Very odd nose. Muted at first. For an aged Burgundy no autumnal notes or what I would expect from an aged Burgundy. On taste fruit is still there. Tannins completely resolved and a soft flavor profile and simple finish. A bit “monolithic” on its profile. As it opens up there is more fruit. Goes ok with food but not the most complex of Burgundies.

So I wonder about aged Chambolle. Is this representative ( could be a bad bottle). Or would I expect more complex notes from an aged vintage Chambolle.

My experience is limited with aged Burgundies prior to 90. Perhaps a half dozen or so. None were as simple as this Misserey.

89s have seen their best day and this is not, I believe, a top negociant. And how was storage? All in all, don’t condemn Burgundy because of this experience.

No, no condemnation at all
Just wondering if this is typical of village wines, Misserey is not that great, or this is an anomaly?
I never had Misserey before so no context on the producer.
The flavor profile and aromas were not what I am used to from Burgundy so I was wondering if this is what happens to villages wines or this is something specific to Misserey or the bottle. My experience is limited to 90’s plus. Very limited in 80’s and before. Jadot Ursules 88 is a different animal that I am familiar with and enjoy. Tardy bottlings from Vosne as well.
The character was just different from other Burgundies for the Misserey.
