1989 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron- France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (12/25/2009)
christmas day with prime rib…ran out of wines i had decanted…so popped and decanted for sediment (a lot of fine…dark purple)
then drank immediately…color is still dark purple/red… wow what a nose…dark fruit…cassis…cedar…cigar box…
more on the palate with a long smooth finish…as it opened…it got better and better…but unfortunately…we
all drank it up rather quickly…it was that time of the evening and the Port awaited…the other wines were an ‘89’ lynch
and an ‘89 Montrose…but the Baron blew them away…dinner started with a ‘90 bolli grand anee…still fresh…
lots of bubbles…dark yellow color…yeast…almond…brioche…this too was slurped down quickly…too quickly…but yummm

Great note Michael though I’m surprised that it drank that well without a long decant. I’m also a little surprised that it out shown the 89 LB and Montrose…that must have been one special bottle of wine.
the problem is there were only 4 of us…and by the time the Port was finished…because Claire and our friend Gina…do not like Port…which left two…and it was too nice to not to finish …well…I need to think about the Lynch and Montrose…
I had this last night and thought it was great but also thought the '90 was showing better now. I also had the '89 Lynch Bages and preferred the PB but certainly didn’t blow the LB away. My scoring was around 95 for the PB and 93 for the Lynch.
I didn’t think so. The '90 was lower acid, so it was a little softer, but there was much more going on in the '89. It was my wine of the night last night.
