We’ve had an unseasonably mild January day on the East coast, and I’ve got some cow ready to throw on the grill, so I thought I would forage around for a mature Bordeaux.
This is still a dark, almost opaque purple at the core, lightening out to translucent ruby/purple at the rim. Blood, iron & graphite on the nose, with a nuance of wood & spice, almost like cedar or sandalwood - very attractive and complex nose.
Black & red fruits on the palate, medium- to full-bodied, with some tannic grip on the finish. This was just opened, so we’ll see how it develops with some air, but right now we have a very elegant merlot blend that is mature, yet in no danger of decline. With the exceptions of the La Fleur de Gay and Certan de May, this has always been one of my favorite right bank wines from the vintage, and it still appears to be in fine form.
