TN: 1988 Château La Mission Haut-Brion… 92 pts… it’s not the 89’

served at the Ron Kramer OL Natick Ma …

deep color rich dark deep ruby…graphite in the eye, ouch to the ouch factor for me on the nose filled with splinters of cigar box, cedar and tobacco, leather, rustic cassis, burnt fall leaves, old flower pots … dried cherries and figs, plums, nothing fresh rustic… tannins are smooth with the husk of a coco bean flavor…

if I owned a case of this I would be a seller or trade up for 89 or the 90 AND GET RID OF THIS SUB PRIME JUICE… OMG went to all caps by mistake and it looks good… lol…

the alc stated is 12.5 and it seems as I come to explore BDX old vintages the alc’s seem to be stated for the general consumer generic … this was hotter than stated…

drink now its over sooner than latter for this vintage … 92 points…

Cheers !!!

John, first off it was great to meet you at Ron’s and enjoyed the company.

I found the 88’ to be a very enjoyable wine but I would never think to seriously compare it to the 89’. There is also a serious bottle cost difference between the two that makes it rather an apples to oranges comparison. I will say that on shear enjoyment factor I found the 78’Ch Beychevelle it was matched with the winner.

Gerry,

was very nice to meet you… I really enjoyed the evening, it was entertaining and filled with wine geek speak … loved it …

as for the TN::: I am most proud of this note, as I did not see this review … my take is exactly the same as two very good pallets …after posting on the other BB someone responded with this TN … I was then pleased to see my review was in line with the respected and much more tuned to BDX to the billionth degree … especially compared to my BDX inexperience and I think I got it right…

sensory evaluation of wine is how I make my living … to test ones pallet I see is rewarding …

ck this out
