1986 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey- France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes (11/16/2013)
From .375ml. Dark gold in color, much darker than the 1975 La Tour Blanc drunk side-by-side. Apricots, crème brulee top, orange blossoms, some peach on the palate. Not in decline at all or barely so, will still drink very well for at least 7-10 more years. (91 pts.)
Nice note, had the 83 about six months ago which was somewhat in decline but still pretty fun. Out of curiosity, was the 75 La Tour Blanc also a 375? You always hear about 375 aging a lot faster (even with stickies), but sometimes they seem to hold up remarkably well.
Yes, it was Rachel. Both came out of the cellar of the old restaurant Le Francais, a long time great French restaurant in the Chicago suburb of Wheeling. When it finally closed and the cellar was auctioned, I picked up the '86 L-P and the '75 LTB. I would guess (but don’t know) that they may have been with the restaurant from release.
While the .375s do age quicker than larger bottles, the stickies do hold up extremely well due to the sugar.
