TN: 1986 Château Gruaud Larose (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien)

Wow, wow, wow, this wine is ROCKING right now. Huge nose of tobacco and graphite, smoke, dust, seaweed and some vitamin pill. The palate is big, black, brooding, chewy, a hint of leather but with more than enough fruit to stand up to the brett. Still loaded with tannin, a nice vein of acidity, black cherry, bitter cocoa on the finish, gaining weight and structure the longer it decants. We decanted for 30 minutes, followed it for 90 minutes, and it was fantastic from the first sip to the last. (96 pts.)

Sounds like you enjoyed it! I’m also a fan of the '86.

I also love this wine, and think it pairs very well with it’s older sibling from 1982.

Nice notes Eric…nothing like an aged bordeaux…and burg [cheers.gif]

Thanks for the notes Eric. I keep looking at my remaining bottles and wondering…

Sometimes I wonder too long. I think it is time to pop one.

Michael, it is certainly a masculine wine but one of the most enjoyable 86’s I have found. Soft and supple it is not. I hope yours shows as well as mine.
