TN: 1985 Salon Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs

  • 1985 Salon Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs - France, Champagne, Le Mesnil Sur Oger, Champagne (10/28/2013)
DOA. Smelled super oxydative and just got worse as it breathed, though the palate was very lean. It soon tasted of super tart apple cider, with no finish but just a mid-length acid trip. My last bottle from a case of which 10 were magnificent, the last 2 opened in the past 3 years were both DOA. Sigh… NR (flawed)

Cheers! [cheers.gif]

Hey you did pretty good in my book since 10 of 12 were great. I tend to bat 4 great, 4 okay, and 4 bad.

Yeah but this was a birthday wine. The replacement, a NV Jose Dhondt, was also off, so settled for a NV Ruinart BdB which was OK (bubbles too coarse).

Overall last night was a bad wine night (others were DOA or TCA).

Tough luck and thanks for posting - I was really close to pulling the trigger on this one last year and after your info I am glad i didn’t!

85 salon doa at my 40th as well
i know try to stick to sofia from the can pepsi

Oof. Had an 82 that was heavily oxidizd as well.

Total root day.

But seriously my experiences line up exactly to Brad’s with 85 Salon. 2 bad, 2 ok, 2 great and all from legit sources.

Hopefully the '85 I bring for the Friday sushi dinner turns out AOK . The last one from my stash was awesome!

Yep, it must have been a Root Day, it was a tough wine night: this, a NV Jose Dhondt that was weirdly off, a 1999 Jadot Clos St Denis that was TCA’d, and a 1998 Jadot Nuits St Georges les Damodes that was DOA. Finally got it right with a 2003 Pascal Pibaleau Heritage d’Aziaum Azay-le-Rideau. Brutal.

it’s ok. Friday and Saturday won’t be root days I just checked the calendar [snort.gif] strawman

I wish everyday could be a root day.

Pre-mox you mean.
