Wines were not served blind and are presented in the order tasted. What I like in
champagnes is a good body, lush, citrus, toast, yeasty, chocolate. The
lean and/or earthy champagnes are simply not for me.

Commentary:
Overall I think these wines were very good. I was quite impressed by
the few lesser expensive bottles (1985 Gosset, 1985 Jacquesson
LD). Not only are they excellent QPR but were also some of my
favorites overall. The Bollinger RD was coming around but my glass ran
dry. Luckily I have a few more bottles to play with in the future to
see if it really comes around to my liking. The Dom was a disappointment. I’m not a big
chalky/earthy fan so if this is what this wine offers I’ll remember to
not buy any more. I’ve rarely liked Dom and this just confirmed that.
I’ve had better bottles of 1985 KRug, the Rare Wine late disgorged bottles have always blown me away. I may like Cristal better younger than older, I’ll need to keep experimenting.
I think the middle priced bottles are perhaps where you get the best
QPR. I like the NV Roederer Brut Premier at $30 and the 2 QPRs
mentioned above. They are not only excellent wines but easy on the
wallet as well.
