From magnum. Opened a couple of hours before service, then decanted and poured. Mature red color without any browning. Healthy nose of black fruit and cedar. Fully mature on the palate with fully integrated tannins. Medium weight due to the age, with red fruits and leather. Excellent. (90 pts.)
Thanks for the note. I have a bunch of 750’s & mags of mid-eighties Duckhorns. I need to open them but can never find the right situation. Yeah, just open that bottle!!
This particular Duckhorn was medium weight at this point, even from a magnum. If you’re looking to open one of yours, I would recommend a similar weight dish to pair with it. In my case, I made a tenderloin roast that was butterflied and stuffed with duck pate and sauteed crimini mushrooms, then cooked sous vide to medium rare. It paired fabulously.
