TN: 1983 Haegelen-Jayer Clos Vougeot

  • 1983 Haegelen-Jayer Clos Vougeot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (10/6/2012)
The aroma is a pile of autumnal leaves that has just been set alight, a wisp of smoke envelops one’s nostrils. It also smells of moss on a cool rock, cardamom, aniseed and something sweet and vinous. In the mouth it is clean fresh and alive with a streak of electric acidity flashing across the palate. There are black cherry flavours that intensify and congregate at the wines heart and the tertiary elements that are just sneaking in counterbalance the flesh. It has great poise and proportion and finishes a little chewy.

Jeremy,
Great note. It appears that we both set our time machines to “1983 burgundy” this evening. Interesting that while you landed on red and I landed on white, we both noticed a streak of acidity that is very much alive. Enjoy!
