TN: 1983 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)

A nice Tuesday night wine. [welldone.gif]

I had this a week ago. I agree it’s a very nice wine and in a nice place right now.

I haven’t had it in 15 years, but it was always a standout among the 83 Medocs. I can still taste it… Yummy! You lucky guys!

It seems to me that the '83’s in Bordeaux are really becoming standouts right now - in a good drinking window, consistently good reviews, etc.

I’ve certainly enjoyed the 83s that I’ve had, just filled with character and while not the standouts that the 82s are across teh board, they are also a lot more affordable

Thanks for the note Phillip, certainly a great bottle to start off the married life. I had this last summer and loved it too

This wine of the vintage along with Palmer and Margaux are my favorites. Only wish I’d bought more.

Jack Johnson

The 85s are nice also and of a similar style.
I will say my last 83 PLL was good, but prior bottles were better (deeper mid-palate). Could be simple bottle variation or the wine is in slow decline. The 83 Lafite was not very good and I prefered the PLL over that everytime.

I had this wine in Dec of last year. Your tasting notes are right on Philip. It was a very good mature bordeaux. [cheers.gif]
