TN: 1982 Philipponnat Champagne Grand Blanc (France, Champagne)

  • 1982 Philipponnat Champagne Grand Blanc - France, Champagne (4/11/2009)
Passover visit to Mom’s house. Disgorged 11/00 as part of the Caveau Tresor series. Light gold in color. Spritzy at first but then subsides into a light, persistent bead. Medium bodied and very elegant with some biscuit, peaches and ripe soft peaches. Long finish. Very enjoyable and a nice match with my swordfish cured with coffee and muscovado sugar. 50+13+13+9+9 = 94 (94 pts.)

Wow, very cool - never had a grand blanc that old.

Had you cellared it all these years or recent buy? I’m a huge fan of the Grand Blanc, the 96 is a treat.

Glad you had a good showing. I’ve had a number of bottles of this that were marred by excessive sulphur.

No excessive sulphur on this one or one more I’ve had since from the case.

It was purchased about a year ago from auction. Based on the first 2 bottles of the case it seems to be in pristine condition.
