TN: 1982 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba

1982 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (1/21/2010)
Opened this for my birthday lunch with cheese. Needed an hour or so to open up. Not as good as the bottle I brought to SF last year. Lots of earth and iron in the nose with a background of plums and red berries. Hints of anise too. Fairly thick and silky with plenty of tannin, more than I recall in the bottle a year ago. More like the one from a few months ago. Long finish of autumn leaves, dried cherries, and that distinctive Giacosa fruitcake.

Goes really well with a nice mild Irish cheddar. Not so much with a good sharp provolone. Wish I had some porcini for this! (94 pts.)

Sounds like you know how to celebrate! What’s for supper?

Lovely note Ken!

Best wishes.

For dinner treat yourself to something better, maybe a nice bottle of Odde…

O forget it.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Oven-fried chicken with Giacosa Arneis.

But I should have had some bubbly.

I don’t have anything against Oddero. I just haven’t had the opportunity to try a good mature one. I assume you will rectify that at some point.

I’m excited I just picked up 2 bottles of the '03. Now, 20 years from this point, I’ll be stoked, and posting a note!

Wasn’t that the Rocche that you got?

In either case, I think the 03s will drink well much earlier than the 82s which was a very tannic vintage.

It was, dammit!

La Rocche…

(freakin’ stalker)

Le Rocche, Biatch!

I’m Hispanic, what can I say?
