TN: 1980 Graham Porto Vintage (Portugal, Douro, Porto)

Nice medium red color. The alcohol heat was fully tamed, leaving a great layer of fruit and medium sweetness. Plums, cherries, chocolate on the palate. While this is a magnum format, the wine performed about the same as some prior 750ml bottles from the past several years. The wine is fully mature and probably won’t get any better by holding it, there is still at least 5-7 years of enjoyable drinking left, so no rush to drink up. (92 pts.)

After Dow and Gould Campbell, this is my 3rd favorite of the vintage, followed closely by Ferreira and Sandeman.

Very interesting - I just had a 80 GC the other night. It was awesome considering the price I paid, and that I got to enjoy a birth year wine with with my brother & dad over some nice cigars.

Joe, if 1980 is your birth year, you should stock up on the 1980 vintage. The Dow is fabulous and still not mature with the Gould Campbell is easily the second best wine. Dow tends to be a bit pricey, but as you mentioned, GC can be had pretty inexpensively.

Thanks, John. Will do.

Didn’t half the bottle end up on your ceiling? Ooooops.

Lol - riesling pants & port ceiling!
