TN: 1979 Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Volcanic Hill

Opened at a local steakhouse to celebrate my partner’s 35th birthday.

1979 Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Volcanic Hill - USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain (7/9/2014#
Fill was base neck level, and the cork was saturated about half way up, but completely clean beyond that with no sign of leakage. Beautiful Bordeaux-like nose of cherries, with raspberries, and a touch of menthol on the palate. Fruit and acidity were very much in balance, and the finish reminded me of a well-aged Brunello. Gained complexity for while after it was opened, indicating to me that this is in no danger of decline any time soon. #96 pts.)

Okay, good reason to pop this bottle for sure. Feel free to pop another one at Domaine! [cheers.gif]

Big fan of the 79 Diamond Creeks. My birth year as well, and these are rock stars.

One of my top 10 all time. Great wine.

Jeb: Unfortunately, the only other one I have is destined for consumption in another 5 or 10 years.
