TN: 1978 Pomerol

1978 Chateau Nenin - Pomerol

My Sunday luncheon usually demands a decently mature wine and today was no exception. Popped and poured from a pristine bottle, the cork came out cleanly in one piece using my trusty Durand. A deep plum red with a light red rim. The nose is an exciting mix of fine forest floor, dried flowers, raspberry jam and a hint of wooden barrel. The velvet mouthfeel is slightly sweet on entry, then settles down into a gentle savoury stroll. The palate is fresh and and fine, and perfectly mature. A lovely old school wine which paired well with lunch.

nice note again, Nicos. I happen to have a bottle of this in my cellar

Nice to see this came around. As a retailer in Chicago in the mid-1980s, I inherited a large chunk of '78 Nenin, and didn’t like it one bit. I really thought it wasn’t going to develop long term, and dumped it cheap. Nice to see I was wrong on that one.

Thanks Nicos -

I love your tasting notes and pictures Nicos, thank you for always posting. Inspiring.

Nice luncheon wine after a night out on the town…or just getting home!!
