TN: 1978 Château Troplong Mondot

  • 1978 Château Troplong Mondot - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (3/12/2014)
Smells of things that would delight English gentlemen of a certain age, Chesterfield lounges, pipe tobacco and leather and wooden interiors from grand marque British vehicles of a bygone era. It has a vinous sweetness that intensifies in the glass. There’s plenty of earth and a nice vein of mineral. It has good proportion and excellent balance. Thank f*ck Michel Rolland wasn’t tinkering with Merlot and Cabernet Franc on the right bank of the Gironde during this period.

Tasting note of the week!

Nice work - have enjoyed a few 78s, although a couple I found to have dried out a bit.

I’m at least a month on it.
