TN: 1978 Chateau Gruaud Larose, St. Julien

That’s correct.

I’ve been eying a half case of the 86, wondering when that hard bastard will reach a point when it offers pleasure without etching your teeth. Probably time I tried one…

For Neanderthals like me, we absolutely love this wine. I think it is first growth quality in 1986. I had another one last year, just fantastic stuff. Do it!!!

With enough air the 86 GL is great now … youthful but pleasurable

I am not a Neanderthal, but from a small collection I picked up lately, they have been superb. A friend, after tasting mine, opened a bottle from a different bottle and felt it was not as good and more tannic.

My notes on the 86 from last year:

Nice! I have a few 78 Lascombes lined up to open later this year. Hopefully they will show as well as your bottle has. I’ve loved the 75 & 78 vintage for most Bordeaux I’ve tasted. They seemed to take a long time to really show their best. Glad you had a good showing for your Gruaud Larouse.
