TN: 1975 Château Léoville Las Cases

  • 1975 Château Léoville Las Cases - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (6/18/2009)
Fill was into the neck and the cork was sound; opened about 1 hour prior to consumption. A ruby core turning to garnet at the rim. A rather subdued bouquet, with scents of cedary dark fruits, leather, earth and spice. Medium bodied, with a firm hand and structured backbone – as expected from a '75 northern medoc – yet with good focus and concentration; some astringency on the finish. I have had better bottles. It’s always a treat to taste an older Bdx that’s in good shape. We’ve had a couple of older LLCs - a '66 and a '67 - and were pleased with how well both of them had held up. That structure really serves the wine well after a few decades.
