Decanted this about 6 hours before we started in on it. I didn’t notice any issues with the nose on this early on, just some lavender and violets. But the palate was rather simple and uninteresting and the finish was rather short on this bottle. I’ve had this several times in the past and it has always been a very nice bottle that doesn’t disappoint. I figured this was just an off bottle until I poured the left overs a few minutes ago. While the three of us didn’t notice anything last night, today there is some very slight mustiness on the nose. Instead of being an off bottle, this bottle ended up having some low level TCA. Total bummer!

You found TCA later on? Never would have guessed. I would have thought after decanting that long it would have been more noticeable or the wine more dead. It only seemed like a basic vintage styled Port to me. Nothing bad but nothing interesting.
It took me by surprise too. I am normally fairly sensitive to TCA, but I’ve had other Vintage Port in the past where it didn’t become apparent for about the same amount of time. Compared to a spot-on bottle this was pretty dead. I’ll crack another one for you sometime soon so you can see what a good bottle should be like.
