TN: 1966 Château La Mission Haut-Brion (France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan)

  • 1966 Château La Mission Haut-Brion - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan (1/1/2010)
Opened for New Year’s Eve with some close friends in the wine industry. Cork was in beautiful shape, moldy at the top but the core was solid and was no problem to open.
The boquet was absolutely beautiful and we all knew we were in for a treat.
The presence of bretanomyces/band aid was a bit overwhelming starting mid-palate. The finish was also a touch short. The bret started to mellow (but was still there), and the fruit started to fight through a bit as it got some air.
It was an event to open this bottle, and it did not disappoint a single taster. I think it might be five-ish years too late, but still holding on. Quite enjoyable. (90 pts.)
