TN: 1959 Chambolle Musigny

1959 Chambolle-Musigny

With Sunday luncheon, I felt that a properly mature (not 1993) red burgundy would be appealing. This wine was bottled by London wine merchants Corney & Barrow Limited. The plain label, with the Royal Warrant, belies the hopefully complex contents. A deep strawberry red with a light red rim. The nose gives me sweet raspberry and strawberry jam, with hints of spices. The mouthfeel is savoury and fresh, with a soft red fruit compote mid palate and a long lingering length. Fully mature if you love old school Burgundy. The last bottle of this wine that I shared about 5 years ago was bigger, bolder and even slightly tannic.

Nice luncheon wine, thanks for sharing.

My one experience with this, back in 2013, sounds more similar to your previous bottle: it was strikingly dense and textural. I guess we have to assume that quite a lot of higher appellation wine probably made it into this bottling.

The short cork is of extremely great quality.
1959 is a great and solid year.
Congratulations,

Sounds like a fun wine Nicos. Thanks!

My pleasure Don!

Thank you Francois.

Chee chaps!
