for me, this is drinking out of the Boxler,
or box, though I do love Trimbach. This is gorgeous wine, a kaleidoscopic citrus orchard wrapped in acidity that is perfectly intertwined with the paradoxically sweet fruit of this dry Riesling. Nose and palate are so complex and interesting–stone fruit peachiness mixing with the citrus. The texture is so soft yet there is bracing and refreshing acidity that lifts the wine and drives it through the palate into the brain. The wine is so focused, so balanced, so beautiful, so intense. Love it. Thanks, Mr. Steinley.
I haven’t had this for a while, but this is what I remember about it. You’re welcome, Alan.
You two guys again, huh??
The wine sounds nice, but all of ALan’s notes make the wines he tastes sound good.
nah, I have posted some losers. Tomorrow starts two weeks dry–on call, so happy to have had something so good. And, hey Hey, your wines aren’t exactly Two Buck Chuck.
Thanks for the note. I am a great fan of this wine though not seen the 2010 yet.
Boxler doesn’t miss…on any wine…at least through the 2006 , when I stopped buying due to age (mine). Quite a brand!
They go from strength to strength on rieslings and pinot blancs and sylvaner, too. Their Sommerberg bottlings are very different from their Brands, but…they have that common nervosite that makes them all terrific.
I’m not sure I know of any winery anywhere that more consistently impresses…me. And…their rieslings really start to show their magic only after a decade in bottle, IMO. (And, the pinot blancs, too.) Their '98s and '99s have been singing over the last couple of years.
Very nice people, too.
Thanks. Have a few in the cellar. One will now get opened soon.
let me know your impressions, David.
Ah, it just seems like yesterday that alan gagged when i offered to bring riesling to a burg dinner at spago. And now he loves the stuff!
that was pre-premox, n’est-ce pas?
Sounds like a good way to finish up before two weeks of teetotaling Alan.
I just opened the 2011 AC Riesling the other night. It had that same blend of softness/richness & structural acidity. I’m really looking forward to trying some of the Grand Crus & like David, may have to drink one sooner than I originally planned.
Just opened one. Yowza, this is the goods! Best Alsatian Riesling I have had since the 2002 vintage.
Which did you drink, David—the 2010 Brand?
Yup. Amazing Riesling. Best dry Riesling I have had in a long time. Incredibly rich yet balanced. Excellent acidity and a looooooooong finish. Great stuff.
Alan (if you’re still following this thread),
Have you had a chance to try any older Boxler Rieslings?
