TN: '08 Sorin Côtes de Provence Rosé Terra Amata

A blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, although I don’t know the proportions for this vintage. Surprisingly serious rosé for ten bucks. Beautiful light pink with a slight peachy cast. Strongly mineral-driven with a very summery bouquet rounded out by ocean breeze, strawberry, and tangerine. Dry on the palate, with flavors that echo the nose. Light bodied, juicy, balanced, and gulpable. Hard to beat for $9.99.

Sounds nice! Did you think it was a good paring with dinner?

Brad, I’ll let Melissa add her impression, but from my perspective it was a good pairing. It was a typical Provencal rose: angular and mineral in addition to red fruits, and it paired nicely with an admittedly casual sandwich dinner. Profundity did not exist in either the meal or the wine, but for sheer simplicity and pleasure, it was a nice match.

I agree with Steve that the meal wasn’t profound, but with bacon, aioli, tomatoes, and avocado, there were plenty of competing flavors and textures. As soon as I knew what we were having to eat, I knew I wanted a juicy and minerally rosé. It was a very good pairing. Once our heirloom tomatoes ripen in August, this is a pairing (Provencal rosé, not necessarily this one) we’ll enjoy frequently.
