TN: '08 Folesano Rosato “Maghinardo” (Emilia IGT, Italy)

Beautiful medium watermelon hue, with ruby tones.

Good scale to the wild strawberry, wet stone, and raw cranberry aromas; very evocative of tangy, mineral wine.

Generous on the palate, it stays true to the nose, offering crisp red fruits, salty savor, nice intensity and gentle dryness. The mouthwatering acidity is freshening and keeps the package taut.

Progression through the persistent finish is excellent, with resurgent strawberry tones and plenty of mineral, earthy nuance in the elegant dryness.

Overall, this is a gorgeous rosato, and one of the most, for lack of a better phrase, “classically French” styled offerings I’ve had from Italy. Very well executed and very satisfying.

Produced from barbera and syrah, at 12% abv. About 300 cases produced. See http://www.folesano.it" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Although I am Folesano’s USA importer, I do not import this wine (as of now), and just brought in a few bottles for my own, personal, pleasure! Perhaps next vintage; we’ll see.
