Stopped by SDWC today and for some reason visited the Pinot eisle. 3 bottles left of this wine and a nice review, so I grabbed them, only $41.95.
Well this is nice rich Pinot with earthy notes with cherries, cinnamon, clove and red flowers. It has bright acidity and sweet finish, but not cloyingly sweet. About just as good as the 07 Loring Clos Pepe, though I’ll give that one the edge, just for the screwcap closure.
I opened this up last night and I totally concur. It does not blow you away, but it is not trying. It just gives me what I want in a pinot-- gorgeous aromas, red fruits, smooth texture and some complexity, to accompany food.
Thanks, Otto. Three of us drank this wine last week after a round of golf alongside the '07 Sonoma Coast, '07 Sangiacomo and the '03 Loring Clos Pepe. It is a big pinot, but hardly flabby. It kicks out the jams flavor-wise, with lots of spices and fizzy acidity accenting the dense fruit filling. Just a whisper of tannin, too, making it real easy to enjoy early. I preferred it to the Sangiacomo, though I was the only one of the three of us, I believe.
