TN: 07 Sineann Pinot Grigio, 05 Callejo Ribera del Duero

2007 Sineann Pinot Gris
I have posted on this before. Suffice it to say that Oregon did well on PG in 07 IMO. And Peter nailed it. This version has some residual sugar to it. That did not detract in any way and perhaps made it a bit more food friendly with a Rice dish from the Silk Road Cookbook. Lots of complexity to it. I look forward to seeing what the new 08’s offer. I have not tried to age these wines nor do I think that a great idea, but I would be curious. 50+3+13+18+7=91

2005 Callejo Crianza Ribera del Duero
Purple/ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is a bit oaked with vanilla and dill and cherry juice too. Full bodied. With some air, this sorts itself out nicely. Cherries, not much complexity. Slight tannins. This is easy to drink and a good quaff. The problem is this was $28 Ohio. I can find just as nice Spanish values at ½ that price. 50+4+12+17+6=89

Loren:
Is it your impression that Willamette Valley is pretty much solid across the line for whites?

i thought 07 was an excellent year for PG’s. I have tasted a bunch. I have only had one chard and a couple Gewurz’s so I am not sure I can comment on them as much. The ones I have tried were very good too.
