TN: '07 Mount Eden Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

Perfect at 13.5% ABV. This is the way cabernet used to be. Nice acids, not thick or unctuous, beautiful mountain fruit dominated by blackberry and cassis with a little herbs de Provence on the back end. Tannic in an unobtrusive way with the stuffing to make the long haul. At $44, I’ll take four of these over some of the newer “darlings” any day.

Totally agree. The '90 Mount Eden Old Vine Reserve Cabernet is still on my all time best Cab list.

Totally agree too. One of the great new world Cabernet programs at a winery more famous for Pinot and Chard.

On the second night, after 24 hours in a decanter, this wine was a thing of beauty. Simply put, something I’d be proud to take to any gathering, anywhere, any time. Gotta go snag a few more bottles.

That wine, the 1990, early in my wine career was eye opening.

Had a 1992 the other day that was gorgeous. There is a crappy restaurant here that has 92-97 on the list for $120 a bottle. Taking candy from a baby, except I have to eat their food.

I haven’t found the recent wines quite as good as the older ones, but the old vine cabernet is gone now.

I had a 95 Old Vine cabernet last year that was excellent as well. I have a handful of Mount Eden cabs in my cellar, but should probably buy more.
