I included both my notes on this wine here since I basically refer back to the original in the second note. Suffice to say, these are wonderfully tasty little babies…
2007 Kutch Pinot Noir McDougall Ranch- USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (8/30/2009)
My lack of patience gets the best of me as I kill the last of my 750ml bottles of Kutch Pinot Noir tonight. This bottle was pretty much identical to the previous bottle from a little over 3 months ago and as much as I would love to see these babies get some age on them, they are absolutely delicious as juicy little infants. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep my hands of the magnum for a while. Only time will tell.

It is worth taking note of the color and clarity of this wine. As with the other two 07 Kutch wines, it is a gorgeous, crystal clear, dark red color that you could easily get lost in for a while. The nose on this was a little subdued for the first hour or so but once the wine came up from cellar temp, it opened up with some nice black cherry scents mixed with a touch of cocoa. Flavors are ripe and fruit forward with lots of plum, cherry, and ripe raspberries. Finishes long and smooth with just a hint of oak. While some may want to sit on these bottles for a few years, I think they are drinking fantastically now. (93 pts.)
I have four of these and haven’t touched one yet, but now I’m greatly tempted. I guess I’ll make plans to open one and keep the other three for a while (we’ll see if it works out that way).
Thanks for the data point. I was eyeing one of these just this night to pop open. Alas, it still sleeps peacefully in the cellar. The weekend is not far off . . . sounds like these are drinking well now even if they have the potential for improvement.
For my money, this is the best wine Jamie’s produced. I love the fruit and structure. I haven’t popped one of my bottles yet. Probably not until 2011. I love letting these 2007s sleep.
Opened the last of my Kutch 2007 McDougal Ranch Pinot last week. This wine was in a mix with other California Pinots - all put in brown paper bags and labeled with titles of various Tim Hanks’ movies. As I recall, this one ended up in a brown bag with the movie Philadelphia. Great movie; great wine.
This was a full, rich wine with many layers of flavors while being elegant and graceful.
