TN : 07 C-Cotetidot Echezeaux, 95 Arnoux Suchot & JM Burgaud CdP VV

  • 2009 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Côte du Py Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon (6/15/2014)
The fruit is more generous and seems darker than a year ago. Black fruit driven nose, blackberries but also a hint of strawberries, noticeable animal, mineral, iron, rare steak and strong presence of earth. Excellent concentration, quite chewy, mineral and earth. Still very primary but a bit rounder now. Having tasted a great negotiant bottle of the 47 Fleurie, I plan to cellar a few bottles for 20 years. There is enough fruit to last and perhaps evolving into something special. (92 pts.)
  • 1995 Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru (6/13/2014)
Expressive nose displaying sweet dark fruits, caramel, a hinf ot sous bois, flowers, Vosne spice and mushroom. Medium concentration, silky, focused and precise palate and clean seamless finish. This bottle is more youthful than the previous two. Very expressive and enjoyable. (93 pts.)
  • 2007 J. Confuron-Cotetidot Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (6/13/2014)
After having a beautiful glass of the 09 Vosne village served blind, I was seeking Confuron-Cotetidot wines at auction and recently got a lot of the 07 mixed GCs.

Medium nose, strong presence of stem, like the 07 Mazis drank recently, subtle display of strawberry and rhubarb pie, raspberry, flower and mushroom. Medium concentration, very delicate fresh fruit and stem driven palate/a hint of green, slightly lacking mid-palate and a hint of tannins. This and the Mazis both seem very youthful and show noticeable stems. The fact that it doesn’t display mush sweet ripe fruits, it would be best to cellar for another ten years for the wine to fully mature displaying more sous bois as well as delicate yet sweet raspberry essence. If you love purity, precision and stem, you should seek the wines from the domaine.

As a side note, I find the overall expression of the 07 reds very similar to the 01s, slightly lacking concentration yet a hint of jammy ripe fruits, very good balance, delicate and pretty, very user friendly, slightly lacking mid palate and clipping finish. Of course, there are a few exceptions like Roumier and DRCs. (93 pts.)

hmm i would be more inclined to compare 07 to 97 than 01, that missing mid palate seems to ring true on both. 01 has structure that neither of the vintages have.

Also your subject line has 05 suchot, not 95. I agree with your note on the 95, quite tasty, hell, all his suchots are quite tasty

thanks,
is funny similar story, tasted 2006 Vosne-Romanée Confuron-Coetidot and then i bought 2006 Echezeaux , 2008 Charmes and Suchots.

Nice job Kevin!

I think there are a lot of 07s in a very good ‘early-drinking’ place right now, Bourgognes, various Rugiens etc…

The DRCs as well. [wink.gif]

The Cotetidots that I drank, while still open and enjoyable, will improve as they are slightly lean and stemmy at the moment.
