TN: 06 Jones Sisters, 07 Rivers Marie Cab, 86 Pichon Lalande, 97 Guado al Tasso

So I stopped over to Graileys last night to drop off a bottle. Figured I would grab something from my stash and sit down and catch up with the boys. Turned into a really fun night.

I grabbed an 86 Pichon Lalande - tight as hell, finally came around after being opened and in the glass for an hour or so. All the stuffing you would want and a rather big wine by Lalande standards. Enjoyable but I think this one needs either a couple hours in the decanter or some more time sideways.

So Simon then opens an 06 Jones Family Sisters - I had this wine a couple of weeks ago and it was plush, elegant, fruit forward, balanced and just really drinking well. Last night was no exception. Supple and round, and would go great with a nice fatty steak.

To get a comparison I opened an 07 Rivers Marie Cab to drink next to the Jones. Again very fruit forward, a distinct oak note on the nose of vanilla extract (thanks D’Lynn for the descriptor). These things just beg you to drink them now. I am surprised at the fact that these things are not tannic monolithic beasts, and you can actually drink them by themselves at this young of an age. With a cheese tray, this was excellent.

For the price points - I would drink those two all day long.

To round out the evening, D’Lynn was nice enough to open a 97 Guado al Tasso. Nectar. Pop and pour - absolutely gorgeous from the get go. A litte leather and cedar and ripe charries, balanced, with acidity and tannin in good harmony with the fruit. A really classic bottle of wine and thanks to D’Lynn and Simon for opening this one.

I am glad my 07 RM’s are in my storage locker. Its notes like these that would make it hard to keep my hands off em.

It’s all good…we had a 2003 Pride Cab Sauv and 2003 Monbo last night with a roasted rack of lamb.
