2005 Roar Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (3/7/2009)
Popped and poured. Delicious right off the bat, cranberry, sour cherry, forest floor, dirt. Absolutely smoked the 2007 Loring Garys. Subtle, seductive, elegant, captivating. An absolutely delicious wine.

2002 Clos Mimi Syrah White Hawk - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (3/7/2009)
Popped, decanted 2 hours, drank over the next 4. Black as a moonless night, deep and rich. Tannic as all get out. After 3 hours, notes of black fruit and earth emerge, but this is a wine that could stand a few days of decanting. A huge beast of a wine, a chainsaw at this point in its evolution. Sit on these for a long time or be prepared to decant for several days.

Drinking well as always I see Brian. Thanks for the note on the Roar.
had the 05 Garys’ last two nights…
love this wine! initially the nose was subdued darker cherries with earth notes but no pine forest. not mushrooms but maybe rock/mineral notes? taste is 180* from there and full of expressive black cherries and a real Sweet Tart in your mouth finish. the 2nd half of this bottle on night #2 is amazing - totally integrated now and seamless. no more Sweet Tart, black fruit has softened and red fruit has emerged, tannins a slight bit more noticeable. mouthfeel is really lush and beautiful now, finish l i n g e r s…
so bummed the economic downturn kept me from buying the 07 Roar Garys’. i can thankfully buy some wine from this upcoming allocation.
Had another 05 Roar Garys’ last night and we loved this wine again. Very cool over-the-pond nose with tons of sweet & tart cherries for taste and a longish finish, just a touch of dark fruit noticed. After 7 hours open the wine did begin to break down just a bit.
