2005 Jonata Winery El Alma de Jonata - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (9/27/2009)
I really wanted a good bottle. Although this was way too young, this was excellent. Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose has cassis, cigar tobacco, slight bell pepper and some black cherries. Full bodied. On the palate, this is really dense and monolithic. With a few hours of air, it starts to open but really took over night. Then cassis, green tobacco, lots of tight layering. This is a huge wine that as delicious as it is now, really need 5 to 7 more years. 50+5+13+19+8=94 (94 pts.) -
2007 Sineann Pinot Noir Oregon - USA, Oregon (9/27/2009)
From a 375. Ruby in color. The nose was cherries, slightly earthy with a slight cherry jam note. Full bodied. On the palate, this has a lush texture. Easy to drink but will get better if held. Cherries and cherry liquer. Great QPR. 50+4+12+18+7=91 (91 pts.) -
2006 Carlisle Syrah Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (9/27/2009)
Purple in color, ruby at the rim. The nose is black raspberries with iodine and soem grilled meats. Full bodied. Slightly tart on opening, it smoothed and opened with air. A bit more rounded on Day 2. Not the most complex wine, but a very nice Syrah and QPR. Could still use some cellaring. 50+4+12+17+7=90 (90 pts.)
