Our first rosé of the evening, on its own before dinner.

2005 Domaines Ott Côtes de Provence Rosé - France, Provence, Côtes de Provence (5/29/2009)
Ohh, this is pretty in the glass. It’s a notch above “onion skin” on the peachy rosé color scale. The nose was restrained at first, but with a little air (and a little time out of the fridge) it’s evolved into a potently perfumed treat. Smoky, floral nose layered with apricot and caramel. Very interesting on the palate-- the texture is light, but the peach, mineral, and saline flavors are quite full and long. I generally prefer rosé that’s fresh off the boat, but this wine (particularly since it’s from a 375) is a great example of rosé that can age.
