So, superbowl was going to be mellow because I drank too much bourbon this weekend.
2003 Pride Merlot
I think it was the 2000 that got me to buy my first bottle of wine for more than 20 dollars. Wife and I were on our anniversary on the Napa Wine train dome and Pride was pouring. Naturally, I bought the merlot for a few years and now have about a case collecting dust. Well, to my suprise this was really good. Lots of white and purple flowers on the nose, a little sweet chocolate. The palate is sweet and velvety with more chocolate and smooth, ripe fruits. The tannins are almost fully integrated. What a pleasant wine.
2005 Parson’s Flats cab/shiraz
Shocker. Buddy had this open and it was also very good. Sweet and ripe, a bit simple, but we killed the bottle. Did not mind it at all.
2005 Corra
Huge, interesting nose. A little horse sweat in there, dark and brambly. Cranberries and some cinnamon. Unfortunately the palate is a lot tighter, some nice berries and great acid, but lots of tannins and the finish shuts down hard. A bummer that I opened it now. The remaining two will be buried for a few years.
2007 Loring Aubaine
Not my favorite vineyard because it doesnt seem to bring it like the others. A bit thin and a mild green streak that made it less appealing. Drinkable but glad it was my last one.
2006 Copain Brosseau
Usual rhonish roasted meat nose with a less than sweet palate made intereting more by structure than taste. Lots of smoke and grilled beef flavors. A bit grainy texture wise. Nice smooth finish. Food wine. (for me)
