Dinner with close friends last week. Our first real dinner after the new edition. Simple, well made food. Nothing fancy.
Just relaxing ahead of time:
[*]2004 Bouchard Aîné et Fils Corton-Charlemagne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (4/19/2012)
youthfully golden with a bright yet deep nose. Lemon curd, citrus, marzipan, with wonderful depth and minerality- focus, with excellent texture and depth without any heaviness. Very pure and achieving wonderful balance without trying too hard. Incredibly drinkable, yet thought provoking. Outstanding stuff. Early peak. 93 pts (93 pts.)
With braised Flannery short ribs and root vegetables
[*]1998 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Gallina di Neive - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco (4/19/2012)
Opened a couple hours ahead and drunk over another 2 hours.
Beautiful nose, better than the last time a couple years back. Perfume, balsam, roses and tar. This is more on the soft supple- ripe fruit side of Barbaresco with a nice mix of deeper perfume, sweet fruit, savory bouillon, and velvety texture. Supple, yet structured, with excellent balance, and drinking at early peak for me. Nothing really stands out here, but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and that, for me is a character I love in wine. This is in a excellent place for me right now. This will never be a barn burner, but it is terribly enjoyable. 92 pts (92 pts.)[/list]

2007 Château Climens - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac (4/24/2012)
Honey, lemon curd and creme brulee on the nose. Viscous yet with bright acidity that keeps it fresh. On the palate, very rich with more honey, upside down pineapple cake, and more citrus- exotic fruit, with excellent acidity and freshness that is a cool contrast to the textural creaminess. Dense and incredibly dense but not heavy, and very long on the back end. This half bottle held up for more than a week, even improving in a half empty bottle. Barsac does not get a lot better than this. A huge future and a great bottle for Sauternes-Barsac lovers. Very impressive. (95 pts.)
