2002 Jean Rijckaert Savagnin Arbois Grand Elevage - France, Jura, Arbois (4/13/2009)
Bright, reflective gold in color. It smells like a ripe dessert wine, with butterscotch, citrus, honeysuckle, and pineapple. Full bodied and viscous on the palate, but without any hint of the sweetness or exotic notes that were present on the nose. The flavors are bright and crisp with tart apple, chalk, and stony minerality. Mouth-puckeringly acidic, with a finish that is both long and potent. I’m on my second glass now, and pretty sure I find this wine more interesting than enjoyable.
