00’ Weinbach Pinot Gris VT Altenbourg- I have a couple of these so I decided to check in on New Years and see how things were.
Last night: Color is bright gold, nose is somewhat muted but still has hints of flowers, pineapple, quince, apricot, botrytis. Palate is somewhat watery and dilute, but has tropical flavors that linger.
Right now: Color has seemed to darken a bit. Nose has really picked up depth, creme brulee, orange rind, cinnamon, pineapple, creme carmels, mint. The palate is intensely spicy with orange, vanilla, cream, burnt sugar, nice acid and a long finish. Great lift and really long, fantastic.
It’s crazy how much wine improves during a 24 hour period…
